I am trying to remind myself that technology is a great thing. Without it I wouldn’t have hot water at the touch of a button, access to the world wide web, sewing machines that zip along helping me finish a quilt in mere hours, or a long arm machine named Larry who can add the beautiful designs to a sandwiched quilt that leaves the maker of the quilt feeling like they’ve created something very special.
Now I like to think of myself as a glass almost full kind of person. BUT when that same technology turns it’s back on us it can be a bit frustrating.
Yesterday I helped a young lady sewing for the first to get her bobbin set up correctly. We all know that those bobbins can choose to be pesky so I was a little nervous for her as she was so excited and I didn’t want her to be frustrated. I might of been but she was up and running in just a few minutes and was shortly showing her mom and I a piece of sewing she had every right to be proud of.
An hour after this I learned my partner Jenn was having an issue with Lawrence.. and yes we call him by his full name when he misbehaves! We have also been known to walk away and give him a time out. Now you might read this and think an inanimate long arm machine doesn’t really need a time out but trust me it’s for his own good! It’s amazing how often a machine can be left alone for awhile and then when you came back it’s ready to behave. I know! I know! You are thinking it’s the operator who needed the time out but I am totally convinced it’s the machine. Proof is that it often only takes a few minutes when we come back for him to be up and running and the project merrily moving along. I’ve watched it happen many times with sewing machines and long armers. I’m sure you’ve experienced this in some form or another?
Another technology event happened this morning. I wrote this long lovely blog post about upcoming events and projects. I was so proud of it as I am just getting back into the swing of blogging and learning the new skill of posting it on social media. Proceeded to answer the phone. Big Mistake! Never leave a temperamental machine like a computer on it’s own. In the short time I was away the entire machine decided to turn off. Now it might have something to do with a loose plug in and two cats playing chase. BUT I am convinced it was just technology protesting. Yep! you guessed it! I rebooted and the long lovely blog post was gone and instead you get this little rant about technology.
Laughter is good for the soul so I am choosing to laugh my way through these events. I pray you are having a good chuckle now and that all of your technology has an exceedingly good day!
